Our partnership with Boots
Find out about how Boots are helping make better cancer care accessible for everyone by providing cancer support in communities across the UK.
Our partnership
Being told ‘you have cancer’ can affect so much more than just your health – it can affect the way you think and feel about yourself. Boots and Macmillan have joined together to provide cancer support in your community from the moment you are diagnosed, through treatment and beyond.
Macmillan’s experience in supporting people living with cancer, combined with Boots expertise in delivering healthcare, eyecare and beauty information and advice, allows us to provide accessible cancer information and support together through our:
- Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists
- No7 Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors
- Boots Macmillan Opticians Professionals.
Since our partnership began in 2009, Boots has raised over £23 million for Macmillan. This is thanks to the continuous support of dedicated Boots colleagues and customers who have taken on challenges and hosted fundraising events to reach this incredible milestone.
Since July 2022, Boots fundraising has supported Macmillan’s direct services. This means everything Boots raises helps fund our vital Macmillan services, including the Macmillan Support Line, Online Community and resources helping us to reach and support even more people with cancer.
Working together in local communities
We provide bespoke training to thousands of UK pharmacists, Beauty Advisors, and Opticians Professionals, equipping them with the skills to provide cancer support within their communities and reach even more people in need. Working together, we offer support in-store and over the phone, which includes:
Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists
Our Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists can be found in store or by telephone appointment. They are specially trained to understand different types of cancer, treatment and to answer questions about medication. They can also guide you to other sources of information and support.
Boots Macmillan Opticians Professionals
Our Boots Macmillan Opticians Professionals training equips Boots clinicians to have conversations about cancer, supporting customers living with and affected by cancer. This service allows Boots Macmillan Opticians Professionals to support people by identifying signs of skin cancers on the face, assisting customers with the management of eye or vision-related side effects of cancer treatment (such as dry eyes) and signposting to Macmillan services where necessary.
No 7 Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors
Our No7 Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors are trained to provide face-to-face advice, they can help people manage the visible side effects of cancer and its treatment. Whether it’s defining sparse brows and lashes or caring for your skin or brittle nails, they offer expert tips to help people feel and look more like themselves again.
Mole scanning service
Boots offer a Mole Scanning Service which provides an assessment of moles and pigmented lesions you may be concerned about, helping to identify any that might need further attention. You can find details about this service and the cost on the Boots website.
Palliative Care Service
Boots have worked with Macmillan and the NHS to launch a Palliative Care Service in its pharmacies.
Together, Boots has created a list of recommended medicines most used by terminally ill patients and has committed to maintaining stock of medicines on this list, or formulary, at over 2,000 of its pharmacies with an NHS contract. Our Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists (BMIP) have also received additional training, developed with Macmillan, on palliative care to accompany the launch of this service.
We are delighted that this innovative partnership service won the accolade of Health Initiative of the Year at the Chemist and Druggist awards in November 2022.
Fundraising that makes a difference
Since 2009, our Boots UK colleagues have thrown themselves into a variety of fundraising events, both in store and beyond, bringing together colleagues and customers to make a difference. From raffles and lunch swaps to makeup marathons and pamper evenings, Boots are dedicated to raising vital funds to support people living with cancer.
Many Boots colleagues go the extra mile by taking on challenge events, from our Mighty Hike series and the London Marathon, to their own inspiring initiatives like their annual golf day or cycling an impressive 170 miles across the UK.
Through the valuable support of Boots customers and colleagues and supplier partners the partnership has raised an incredible £23 million. We couldn’t be more grateful for all their amazing dedication and support which makes such a meaningful difference to those living with cancer.
No7
In 2019, No7 launched a new partnership with Macmillan and pledged to raise £1 million for Macmillan.
The partnership also aims to raise awareness of Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisors and the support that's available in store. Together, we are committed to ensuring customers feel empowered to access free support in their local area.
