Fundraise at your wedding

Begin your fundraising by telling your guests why you're choosing to support Macmillan for your wedding or civil partnership by including a message in your invitations.

The message could also include a link to your JustGiving page or online Gift List. Online Gift Lists often include a charity donate option.

If you set up a JustGiving page, you could also include information there about why you're fundraising for Macmillan.

Organising a collection at your wedding or civil partnership in memory of a loved one is a generous and meaningful way to celebrate their life and acknowledge their absence on the day. By setting up a tribute fund online, you can invite guests to join you in remembering your loved one, while helping to support more people living with cancer.

Guests can give to your fund online and share their memories. In addition, if you collect any cash for Macmillan on the big day, this can either be donated via the tribute fund or added as an 'offline' total afterwards.

Cash collections

You could have a collection box or bucket at the bar or cake table and invite guests to give a donation if they have any spare cash. This works particularly well if there is a free bar. Order your collection materials on our resources website Macmillan Order.

Cashless collections

If you have a JustGiving fundraising page, you can print out a unique QR code that people can scan to make cashless donations. You could even display this code on a tablet next to your collection box! Find out how to download your fundraising page QR code.

If you've collected extra donations on the day of your civil partnership or wedding, please remember to pay them in so we can update your fundraising total and thank you and your guests for your generosity. Find out how to pay in your donations.

If you are sending out thank you cards to people who attended, you could also include a link to your fundraising page.

When Kate and Nick were planning their wedding, they both agreed that they didn’t need any more towels or things for the kitchen.

Instead, they set up a Macmillan tribute fund, and asked their wedding guests to make donations. They were delighted when they received generous wedding gifts for Macmillan totalling more than £6,000. That’s enough to fund a Macmillan nurse for five and a half weeks (figure based on ‘The Cost of Macmillan’s Services Factsheet 2019').

Daniel had cancer, as had many beloved people in Ricky’s family, including his parents. So it was only natural to support Macmillan when the two of them got married.

As Ricky says, "We chose to support Macmillan on our wedding day because my Mum, Dad, cousin Angie and Daniel himself, have all suffered with cancer."
