  • How to promote fundraising for a charity event

Promoting your fundraising charity event before the days of social media could be a real struggle. Reaching a wide audience was often difficult and keeping supporters up to date and excited about your event was a real challenge.

The rise of social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter things have transformed the way people fundraise online. We are connected to our professional and personal networks in a way like never before. We can reach large groups of people who already have an interest in why you are fundraising for your event, and who will want to support you along the way.

Platforms such as JustGiving have made it even easier for you to collect donations from your supporters once you have told them about your event.

  • Do I need insurance for a fundraising event?

If you are organising your own fundraising event for Macmillan, rather than signing up to an organised event, you are responsible for making sure that the event poses no risk to others. Insurance is often included in venue hire fees, but not always.

You may need to consider arranging public liability cover for some events, which will protect you against claims made by third parties for injury or property damage as a result of negligence. In most cases, for public and/or hazardous events, you may need public liability cover in place. For private events this may not be necessary. Please seek advice if you are unsure.

Find out more about keeping your event safe and legal. If you are taking part in an organised event that you’ve signed up for, event providers usually have insurance in place, but you may wish to get in touch with the event organisers to check.
