David Francis, Chief Information Officer (interim)

David's role
David’s role is to drive the delivery of Macmillan’s objectives by making best use of our technology and data. He leads the work to enhance digital customer experience, improve efficiency and transform our technology portfolio to have greater impact.
David provides innovative data, digital and technology solutions to support collaboration, growth, efficiency, and productivity within our Macmillan community.
He oversees the continued operations of the technology infrastructure required for the delivery of Macmillan’s important services, keeping our data safe and secure.
David is a strong advocate of digital inclusion and in using technology to enable social mobility. He is passionate about delivering world class technology services – putting people living with cancer at the centre of all.
Career and credentials
David joined Macmillan in September 2024 with a track record of more than 30 years of operational and consulting experience within the Health and Life Science sector. He was previously Chief Information Officer and Senior Director of Strategy and Operations responsible for global transformation programs at Novartis and has held similar roles at GlaxoSmithKline and Accenture.
David also brings experience both consulting and volunteering for a number of charities, including Whizz Kids, Prince’s Trust and the Social Mobility Foundation to help young adults reach their full potential. He has worked in many places around the world and recently returned to the UK from Switzerland where he lived with his family for many years.

The non-work stuff
David is married and has three sons and a mad spaniel, called Poppy. He is passionate about the outdoors; sailing, skiing, cycling, hiking, and is a year-round sea swimmer. A qualified Ocean Yachtmaster he recently completed his first transatlantic voyage and is planning his next trip to Svalbard in the arctic circle.
