Aurora is a local charity dedicated to providing support for people in Bassetlaw affected by cancer and long-term health conditions, including their family and friends. You don't have to be referred to Aurora by a cancer nurse specialist, GP, or health care professional, you can self-refer either over the phone, via email or access our referral portal on our website. For people who are struggling with their diagnosis, health condition or feelings of anxiety, loneliness or depression, our Cancer support team can provide a friendly listening ear. We offer emotional support and an opportunity to chat about your concerns, either face to face or over the telephone. We can create a personalised holistic care plan tailored to your needs. Support includes specialised counselling, support groups, befriending, stress & anxiety workshops, and bereavement support. We focus on prehabilitation, rehabilitation and the importance and benefits of exercise and nutrition before, during and post cancer treatments. We run 1 to 1 nutrition clinics with a HCPC registered dietitian and cancer rehab exercise classes, facilitated by a cancer exercise specialist. Yoga , Pilates and Tai Chi are also available at Aurora. We know that a cancer diagnosis can have a huge impact on the whole family, so we offer support for all. We have a dedicated children's room and have two accredited therapists that are specialised in supporting children and young adults using a person-centred therapeutic approach.
