In a presentation to the group, Professor Radford provided an update on the work of the programme and discussed how the novel use of data and digital technology can help improve outcomes and the patient experience. He spoke in detail about a strategy for managing cancer patients 5+years from treatment, when the risk of cancer recurrence is low, but patients are at risk of other multiple health issues because of the late effects of their treatment for cancer. The intervention, called ADAPT, provides patients and GPs with individualised information about diagnosis, treatment, possible late consequences and how these can be recognised, mitigated and managed. Professor Radford then spoke about remote monitoring of cancer patients at risk of sepsis, a pilot study of using wearable biosensors in patients at high risk of chemotherapy associated neutropenic sepsis. Following his presentation, Professor Radford then took questions from those in attendance. -

Summer Reception 2018
On Tuesday 17 July, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer (APPGC) held its 5th annual Summer Reception.
The event provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), which have improved their 1 year cancer survival rates and reflect on the progress towards delivering the Cancer Strategy for England by 2020. Speeches on the importance of early diagnosis in cancer care were given by John Baron MP, Health Minister Steve Brine, and Lynda Thomas, previous CEO of Macmillan.
The reception provided an opportunity for MPs, Peers and other stakeholder organisations to come together to discuss this progress. It was also a chance to thank John Baron MP for all his hard work over the past nine years as chair of the group. -
Summer Reception 2017On 5 July, the APPGC hosted its annual Summer Reception in the Strangers’ Dining Room in Parliament. The reception was a great success with around 70 attendees from across the cancer community including parliamentarians, charities, patient representatives, Cancer Alliance Leads and Clinical Commissioning Groups.
At the Reception, the APPGC was re-launched in the new Parliament, where both new and returning MPs were invited to join the Group as Members and Officers. We also launched our inquiry into the England Cancer Strategy and continued our campaign to improve one year survival rates by celebrating those Clinical Commissioning Groups who have most improved their one year survival rates.
We heard speeches from the new Minister, Steve Brine MP, Nicola Hunt, Cancer Programme Director for NHS England, Professor Sean Duffy, Cancer Alliance Lead for West Yorkshire and Harrogate, and the previous Chair of the APPG on Cancer, John Baron.
All speakers emphasised the importance of delivering the ambitions of the Cancer Strategy with Steve Brine stating that 'he wanted the priorities of the Cancer Strategy to become the priorities of Government'. -
Summer Reception 2016On 6 July the APPGC hosted its annual Summer Reception, titled One year cancer survival figures: recognising progress at Strangers’ Dining Room in the House of Commons.

More than 80 people attended the event including representatives from across the cancer community; cancer charities, private sector, Macmillan patient representatives and 20 Parliamentarians.
Minister for Public Health, Jane Ellison MP, addressed the reception and recapped the progress made over the last few years including the Cancer Strategy and reassured everyone that cancer will remain a priority for the government, regardless of what changes occur over the coming weeks and months. The attendees also heard from John Baron MP, and Dr Vivek Varakantam from East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG. -

This reflects both the important function the APPGC performs and the recognition that it continues to receive.
