Catherine McBain is senior medical editor at Macmillan for information about brain tumours. Since 2005 she has been Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie. She is a core member of the Neuro-Oncology, Base of Skull, Brain Metastases and NF2 multi-disciplinary teams. She manages patients with primary tumours of the brain and spine, and subgroups of patients with brain metastases. She is particularly interested in clinical trials of novel agents in glioma, alongside advocating for excellence and education in all aspects of brain tumour patient care, from early diagnosis to rehabilitation, survivorship and supportive care.
She is the Greater Manchester Cancer Clinical Lead for Neuro-oncology. In October 2022, she was appointed as NHS England National Clinical Lead for CNS Tumours. She is a member of the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission Academy Founders Board and is also on the council of the British Neuro-Oncology Society. Publications include a Cochrane review on treatment options for progressive glioblastoma and co-authorship of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO) Guidelines on Primary Cerebral Lymphoma.
