Our Free Will Service offers you the opportunity all year round to write your will for free.

We understand how important it is to have high quality wills in place that meet your needs. To make sure you always receive the best service we have partnered with expert will writers who are either registered with or have staff registered with the Solicitor's Regulation Authority.

Our partners are based across the UK. They may offer different ways to write your will such as online, over the phone, through a home visit or video call, in a local branch, or by post.

Co-op Legal Services (England and Wales, Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly, Lundy Island)

Co-op Legal Services is trusted by tens of thousands of people every year to support them with writing their will. They’re rated ‘excellent’ by their customers on Trustpilot and are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), which gives supporters of Macmillan additional protection.

Co-op Legal Services provide online and telephone will writing services in England and Wales. Once you have registered, you can start making your will online or book a telephone appointment (daytime and evening appointments available). Both options you choose include a phone call with a will writing specialist, who will discuss your needs and help ensure your wishes are upheld. They can also securely store your will for your lifetime, for free.

Co-op Legal Services is part of the Co-op Group, which is member owned and community focused. Their values of openness, honesty, social responsibility and caring for others is core to the service they provide.

Your will must be completed within 6 months of registration. To be able to meet this deadline, you should submit your will instructions either online or through your appointment within 2 months of registering.

Please note, Co-op Legal Services may be able to provide an urgent will service, but they ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible. If it is not urgent, the process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Farewill (England and Wales, Scotland, Hebrides, Shetland and Orkney Islands)

Farewill provides an award-winning service for our supporters across the UK. Rated excellent on TrustPilot from over 17,000 reviews, they are also four time winners at the British Wills and Probate Awards.

England and Wales

If you live in England and Wales, you can use Farewill's online service. It's a simple step-by-step process with phone or email support available 5 days a week, from 9am to 6pm. Once you've completed your will, Farewill's specialists will check it for you within 5 working days to make sure your wishes are clear. You can then download your will or order a printed copy.

Scotland, Hebridges, Shetland and Orkney Islands

If you live in Scotland, you can use Farewill's telephone service. A professional will writer will talk through your needs and draft your will for you. Please note, there is a cancellation fee of £20 if appointments are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Urgent wills

Farewill may be able to provide an urgent will for health reasons, but they ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible.

The Goodwill Partnership (England and Wales)

The Goodwill Partnership provides home visit will writing appointments in England and Wales. They are proud to offer an outstanding ethical service since 2009, and work in partnership with more than 150 UK charities.

Once you register, Macmillan will pass on your details to The Goodwill Partnership, who will call you within 5 working days to arrange your will writing appointment. During the appointment, you will be guided through the will writing process by one of their representatives, allowing you to lay out your personal wishes. Your draft will is checked by an in-house solicitor and sent to you within 20 working days of your appointment. It will include instructions on how to sign it and make it legally binding.

Please note, The Goodwill Partnership are unable to provide urgent wills. For urgent will writing appointments, please register with an alternative partner.

Irwin Mitchell (UK-wide, Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly, Lundy Island, Hebrides, Shetland and Orkney Islands)

Irwin Mitchell solicitors provide online, postal, telephone and video wills. They won the Private Client Team of the Year award in 2022 and National Solicitor Firm of the Year award in 2018 at  The British Wills and Probate Awards.

You can register for a free online will with Irwin Mitchell straight away. You will be sent a link to Irwin Mitchell’s website where you will be asked to submit your will instructions via a webform. If you register for a telephone or video will, you will be provided with a link to book your appointment directly with Irwin Mitchell at a time and date that best suits you. If you register for a postal will, Macmillan will pass on your contact details and Irwin Mitchell will send a will pack in the post within 5 working days, which you can then complete and return.

Your will must be completed within 6 months of registration. To be able to meet this deadline, you should submit your will instructions either online, or through your appointment or postal pack within 2 months of registering. Once Irwin Mitchell have received your complete will instructions, they aim to send your will within 10 working days for you to review. You can make any changes or ask final questions about the document you have received and once you're happy with the will, they will then send you a final version along with instructions for signing.

Please note, Irwin Mitchell may be able to provide urgent wills for health reasons, but they ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible. If it is not urgent, the process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Jones Whyte (Scotland, Hebrides, Shetland and Orkney Islands)

Jones Whyte solicitors provide in-branch appointments for people at their offices in Glasgow. They won Firm of the Year in 2021 at the Scottish Legal Awards and The Herald Law Awards of Scotland.

If you register for a free will with Jones Whyte, Macmillan will provide them with your contact details. Within 2 working days they will contact you to arrange your in-branch will writing appointment.

Your will must be completed within 6 months of registration. To be able to meet this deadline, you should arrange your in-branch appointment within 2 months of registering.

After Jones Whyte have received your full will instructions at your appointment, they will send your draft will within 5 working days for you to review. Once you're happy with the will, they will then send you a final version along with instructions for signing.

Please note, Jones Whyte may be able to provide urgent wills but ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible. If not urgent, the process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Octopus Legacy (UK-wide, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Shetland and Orkney Islands)

Expert will writer Octopus Legacy offer a full range of writing services including home visits, in branch, and telephone appointments. Rated excellent on Trustpilot, they’re a professional and friendly service trusted by people across the UK. Octopus Legacy provides a place to plan for death and find support after loss.

Once you register, we will pass on your details to Octopus Legacy who will call you within 5 working days to arrange your will writing appointment. During the appointment, you will be guided through the will writing process by their expert will writers allowing you to lay out your personal wishes. Your draft will is then sent to you within 20 working days of your appointment. Once you’re happy with it, they will send you the final version, along with instructions on how to sign it, and make it legally binding.

Please note, Octopus Legacy may be able to provide an urgent will for health reasons, but they ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible.

Wilson Nesbitt (Northern Ireland)

They also provide in-branch appointments at their offices in Belfast and Bangor as well as home visits in Greater Belfast and North Down. You can register for a free online will with Wilson Nesbitt straight away. You will be sent a link to Wilson Nesbitt website where you will be asked to submit your will instructions via a webform. If you register for a home visit, in branch appointment, postal, telephone or video will, Macmillan will provide Wilson Nesbitt with your contact details. They will then contact you within 5 working days to either arrange your appointment or send a will pack in the post for you to complete and return.

Your will must be completed within 6 months of registration. To be able to meet this deadline, you should submit your will instructions either online, or through your appointment or postal pack within 2 months of registering.

Once Wilson Nesbitt have received your complete will instructions, they aim to send you your will within 10 working days for your approval. You can make changes or ask final questions about the document you have received and once you are happy with the will, they will then send you a final version along with instructions for signing. You can also sign by attending one of their offices.

Please note, Wilson Nesbitt may be able to provide urgent wills for health reasons but ask that you make them aware of this as soon as possible. Wilson Nesbitt also offer home, hospice or hospital visits for people who may not be able to attend one of their offices for an appointment.
