What is the CharityGo app?
Charity Go is a mobile app that lets you take contactless donations in person.
People raising funds for Macmillan can use this safe and secure app to collect credit and debit card or mobile wallet payments like Apple pay, Google pay or Samsung pay.
The app uses NFC technology on mobile phones to process transaction.

Terms and Conditions
The Charity Go app is powered by Givestar and is Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliant.
Givestar charges Macmillan transaction fees for app usage. These are 1.9% + 20p per donation. The app costs £3.50 per device per month when the app raises £10 or more - this will be charged to Macmillan.
Use of your mobile phone and the Charity Go app for your fundraising activity is undertaken at your own risk. Macmillan Cancer Support has no responsibility for any damage, harm, or loss caused to your mobile phone.

Can I see how much I've raised?
Yes, we will send you a link to a dashboard where you can view your live totals. This is included in your welcome email.

Is donor information stored on the app or phone?
No. Any donor who donates through the CharityGo app can have confidence that the security of their card details is maintained at each stage of the process and the user of the app cannot see any donor specific information such as card details, bank information or personal information, even if they give their details for Gift Aid.

How much can people donate through the CharityGo app?
If someone is using a physical bank card then an iPhone can take any amount.
If someone is using a physical bank card on an Android then it can only take a donation which is £100 or less.
There is no transaction amount limit if someone pays via their mobile (digital) wallet on Android or iPhones.
Donations will appear on bank statements as GS - MACMILLAN.

Can people add Gift Aid to their donations?
Yes, when you start taking a donation you can select 'Quick Donation' or 'Gift Aid eligible one'. Full details are in the user guide in your welcome email.
When you select the 'Gift Aid eligible one', the donor will be asked to add in their personal details and continue through the payment process. Their personal details and payment information will not be stored on the mobile device taking the donation. They must be a UK taxpayer and accept the declaration statements (if applicable).

How will I know if my mobile (smartphone) will work with the CharityGo app?
The app works by using the built-in NFC reader in your smartphone. This is the same technology used to make mobile payments.
You will need an iPhone XS or newer model that is running iOS 16.4 or new iOS.
For Android users, you need an Android phone that:
- has NFC capability
- is Google-certified
- runs Android 10 or above.
If you're unsure if your device is compatible, when you download the app it will let you know if your device is compatible.

What are the smartphone operating requirements to use the CharityGo app?
Apple - an iPhone XS or newer phones and must be running iOS 16.4 or later.
Android - a phone that has NFC capability, is Google-certified and runs Android 10 or above.

How much mobile data does it use?
The app uses roughly 1kb per transaction (this varies on signal strength). This is a small amount of data as there are 1,000,000kb’s per 1GB.

Why do I need to share my location with the app?
Some of the app's features are only available in certain regions. In order for these features to work, CharityGo need to verify that you are in an eligble location. Therefore the app requires you to share your location.
When you install the app, you will be asked to share your location. You can select 'while using the app' or 'always.'
If you miss the notification, you can enable location sharing by the following steps.
How to enable location sharing on iPhone:
- Open ‘settings’
- Scroll down until you see Givestar/CharityGo in your list of apps
- Tap on 'location' and select 'whilst using the app.'
How to enable location sharing on Android:
- Open 'settings'
- Scroll down to apps, then find and select Givestar/CharityGo
- Tap on 'permissions'
- Tap on 'location' and select 'whilst using the app'
- Allow 'nearby devices'.

Can I share my app login details with someone else who is fundraising with me?
You can, but please be mindful that donations will only sit on the Macmillan record for the person the app log on is registered too. If you require access for someone else, simply send the Supporter Care team an email fundraising@macmillan.org.uk or call 0300 1000 200.

Does it work in Northern Ireland (NI)? What about international bank cards?
The app works in Northern Ireland and in most European countries. All donations are taken in GBP, international cards are accepted but the currency will be converted by the donors bank.
