Macmillan Community Cancer Champions
“People in my community didn’t understand what cancer services are available"
Helping to make cancer support more equitable
No one should struggle to access cancer support because of the colour of their skin, their faith, sexual orientation, or economic status. But we know the reality is that there are many barriers to equitable cancer care and support across the UK.
We are working with communities in different areas throughout the UK, to help tackle these barriers and improve access to support for people living with and affected by cancer.
Community Cancer Champions Partners will play an active role in listening to the challenges faced by people in local communities, encouraging people to have conversations about cancer. This will ultimately help to reduce the stigma of diagnosis so that more people will seek support, rather than ignoring symptoms from fear, a lack of trust or avoiding health services due to them not being accessible.

How the project is making a difference
“People in my community didn’t understand what cancer services are available, what cancer is and are confused by the NHS system in general.
"However, after these events, they now feel clearer, understand cancer better and are helped and encouraged by the project to respond to health services, especially cancer.”
