About The Event
What is an IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3?
An IRONMAN consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) cycle and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run. An IRONMAN 70.3 is made up of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. Either distance is a chance to test yourself to the limit in one of the toughest events in the world.
What is the Macmillan Cancer Support reimbursement scheme?
Macmillan Cancer Support will reimburse 30% of the value of the sponsorship (not including Gift Aid) that you collect (up to the cost of your entry fee). This means that Macmillan receives the benefit of 70% or more of your sponsorship. The claim must be submitted within 3 months after your event.
So, for example, if you raise £100 (not including Gift Aid) then you'd be reimbursed £30. If you want to be reimbursed your full entry fee, the amount you need to raise would differ depending on how much you paid for your place.
For example, if you paid £432 to enter IRONMAN UK, then you would need to raise £1,440 (not including Gift Aid) to be reimbursed the full £432.
Why are Macmillan offering to reimburse sponsorship?
Reimbursing a percentage of your sponsorship is a risk-free way of fundraising for the charity and it can be cheaper for the charity than the cost of a charity package. If you have any questions about fundraising or why donations may be used in this way, please don't hesitate to contact Macmillan directly at triathlon@macmillan.org.uk.
What's the fine print of the reimbursement scheme?
Macmillan Cancer Support will reimburse 30% of sponsorship up to the cost of your IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 entry fee. Macmillan is only able to reimburse you:
- After the event has taken place
- If the claim is submitted within 3 months after the event
- When we have received proof of purchase of your entry fee
- If you set up an online fundraising page, you must put the below text on your page:
Macmillan Cancer Support will reimburse 30% of the value of the sponsorship (not including Gift Aid) that I collect (up to the cost of my entry fee) will be reimbursed. This means that Macmillan receives the benefit of 70% or more of my sponsorship.
You can do this by going to the bit where it says 'Edit your page title, summary and story' and adding it to the section titled 'Tell your supporters your story'
- If you have agreed to Macmillan's terms & conditions prior to fundraising
- When we have received all the sponsorship monies on which you wish us to calculate the reimbursement; we will only make a single reimbursement payment.
Macmillan is only able to reimburse you directly, and will not pay the money directly to the IRONMAN race organisers.
If you choose to participate in the entry reimbursement scheme we cannot claim Gift Aid on a donation that you or a close family member make towards your event sponsorship as you are taking part in an event where Macmillan is contributing to your entry costs, so counts as a gift aid benefit.
Full details about the event reimbursement scheme can be found in our terms & conditions for the event, and a link to Macmillan’s terms & conditions can be found here.
