5 fundraising tips for event day

The days leading up to and just after your event are BIG fundraising opportunities. Our tips will help you make the most of the big day.

Its all been leading up to this - event day is here! These simple tips will help you make the day a fundraising success.


 

The number one.

Upload an 'I did it!' selfie

If there's one fundraising must-do on event day, it's telling people when you've finished. Whether you're proudly holding a medal at the finish line, or washing up after a bake sale, tell your supporters how it went. Some people might be waiting until you're finished before they donate, others might be compelled to give again when they hear about your impressive time or the obstacles you overcame.
The number two.

Share regular updates

Depending on what you're doing, we know this isn't always an easy one. If you're running a marathon for example, taking a 'Facebook status update pit-stop' is probably going to be the last thing on your mind. But if you can share regular updates, it'll help make your supporters feel invested in how you're doing. Even if it's just before you hit that start line, share an update and tell people how their support motivates you.
The number three.

Set a target for the day

Setting yourself a target for the day is a great way to engage with your supporters. You might already have a fundraising goal, so it could be about getting that to 100%, or it could just be an amount you'd like to raise that day. Share updates when you get to certain milestones, and ask people if they can help you get to the next one... "Thanks Sophie for getting me to 50%! Who is going to take me to 60%?".

The number four.

Keep asking after event day

There are lots of reasons why people might not donate on the day of your event. Maybe they're holding out until pay day, they didn't see your event day updates, or they were distracted by something else. Don't be afraid to follow-up in the days and weeks after the event. Tell them how you're recovering while reminding them how their support will help people living with cancer.

The number five.

Thank people for their support

How did it feel when someone supported you? Pretty great, right!? It means a lot, so tell people how much you appreciate it. A personal message to your biggest donors, an email to your colleagues, a social media update to say a general thank you. You can thank people for the support so far, and then gently remind others that there is still time to donate.
