We’ve been working in partnership with Scottish Widows since 2021 to help ensure that Scottish Widows’ customers living with cancer receive the best possible support.

Through our partnership, customers can be referred for additional support. After being referred, Scottish Widows’ customers will be contacted by Macmillan’s specialist Financial Guidance Team within 72 hours who can help with all aspects of the customer’s finances from mortgages to pensions and benefits. Since the start of the partnership in 2021, over 700 customers have been referred to Macmillan for expert cancer support.

We’re also working to help Scottish Widows’ customers get faster insurance claims payments through a Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). Scottish Widows Advisors can speak directly to the CNS to confirm an individual’s cancer diagnosis instead of waiting for a medical report from the GP. This can help reduce the time it takes to process an individual critical illness insurance claim.

Scottish Widows colleagues are trained to ensure they have the confidence and know-how to support customers living with and affected by cancer, and to educate them on Macmillan’s services and available support.
