Basbousa with almond recipe

Basbousa is a sweet cake originating from Egypt flavoured with almonds and semonlina.
A white tray is filled with a basbousa. The basbousa is cut into squares and each square is topped with a single almond. The white try is on top of a yellow and blue patterned table cloth and there is a wooden spoon next to the tray.

1 tin /397g sweetened condensed milk

1½ tsp baking powder

320g semolina

100g ground almonds

250ml water

For the syrup

400g sugar

375ml water

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tbsp rose water

2 tbsp ground almonds
