Supporting Macmillan Grants
What are Macmillan Grants?
4 in 5 people with cancer in the UK see their finances impact by an average of almost £900 a month.
A cancer diagnosis comes with a substantial price tag. Many people lose income if they cannot work as well as facing additional expenses such as regular travel to hospital.
The spiralling costs of everyday items such a fuel, energy, and food are pushing many to cut back on essential that could impact their health and recovery - with some even missing treatment and appointments as a result.
Macmillan Grants are one-off payments to help people who need immediate support with costs caused by, or related to, their cancer.

Debbie's story
Debbie was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in August 2021.
"With no car and feeling too weak for the bus, I didn’t even know how I’d get to my hospital appointments. But that was where Macmillan stepped in. They gave me a grant to help pay taxi fares. The relief was incredible. Like having a weight lifted off of me.”
How you can help
£10,000 can fund 50 Macmillan Grants, meaning people living with cancer can get financial support if they're struggling with everyday costs.
Demands for grants has increased rapidly in recent years. In 2023, we supported almost 50,000 people with a Macmillan Grant, helping them to cope with the unexpected costs a cancer diagnosis can bring.

Making a difference
The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust supported our Macmillan Grants by donating to Macmillan's Emergency Grants Appeal.
“We know that the current cost-of-living crisis is disproportionately impacting some of the most vulnerable people in our society. As the cost of essentials like food and heating soar, many people with cancer continue to face impossible decisions, such as whether to heat their homes or eat a hot meal – decisions that could have major implications on their health and recovery.
"Demand for Macmillan Grants is the highest it has ever been, so we were delighted to show our support by making the lead £1 million donation to Macmillan’s Emergency Grants Appeal.
"We are pleased that this lead gift inspired other donors to offer their own support, enabling Macmillan to offer a true lifeline to thousands of people living with cancer in the UK."
