Vivek and Tyler's HYROX stories

Vivek and Tyler both took on HYROX London ExCel in 2024, with two very different perspectives. Join them in conversation as they chat about their reasons and motivations for taking on HYROX for Macmillan.

Vivek took on his first HYROX in memory of his mum, who passed in 2023.

‘I went to go see my friend do it for the first time last November. I looked at it and thought, hell no, I’m not doing this! But when I was walking around, I saw the Macmillan stand, and Macmillan was something that was close to me because it only been two or three months when I went to that event after I had lost mum, and I lost mum to cancer. I thought if I am to do it, it is going to be for a good cause.’

Joined by his friend Hamel, they took on the Doubles Men’s race and raised an incredible £5,874.

‘When I completed it, my father turned around to me and he said to me, I’m so proud of you. Sometimes it’s very difficult for my dad to get emotion out of him and he turned around and said I love you, and it’s a rare occasion. And I just thought is mum was here, she’d give me the biggest hug, she’d just be so, so proud.’

Tyler took on his 8th HYROX race, having started back in 2021. As an adaptive athlete and brand ambassador for HYROX, Tyler proves that HYROX is indeed for every body.

‘Initially, when I first saw HYROX, and so many people say this as well, they saw it and thought, that’s too hard, I’m not fit enough. You know me with my disability, there’s no way I could do it. And then I had a bit of a switch in mindset. I kind of thought, well how can I tackle these events? How can I adapt things for my needs to get it done? And that’s exactly what I did. I literally just rocked up and did what I could, I was proud of that. And just like everyone, they get through their first one and then they just sign up for the next one and the next one and the next one.’

Tyler took on his latest race for Macmillan in honour of his uncle Steve.

‘He was always proud of everything I did, especially in the fitness space, some of the challenges I did like when I was on Ninja Warrior a few years ago he was like bursting with pride that I’ve been on TV and got through this challenge further than some other people with both their legs and arms and that was something he always reminded me of.’

‘The fact that I’ve done a race for Macmillan and raised money for Macmillan, yeah he’d be proud of that too, so this was for him.’
